Freedom!!

Today was my last day of school for the Fall semester!!
It went by so fast. Here is one of my final projects for digital painting. Not quite there yet, but my instructor said I am definitely showing improvement!

A Creature of Some Sort

Here is my final creature for my creature design class with Terryl Whitlatch (in case you don't know, she's a big deal). I've decided to call him the Accalon because it seems like a fairly menacing name for my fairly menacing creature. Just four more days and I get to concentrate on my own projects and clean my disaster of a house. :)

Art Show!

Had an art show this past weekend through AAU. Didn't sell anything but it was a really good experience to show my paintings and also to see what other artists at my school are doing!
Finally got a website going, so please check it out!

Square One

After a crazy summer I am now Megan Morehouse. Definitely behind on my thesis after spending so much time on the wedding, but very motivated to get caught up and back on track. This semester is flying by!

I am also taking a creature design class with the wonderful Terryl Whitlatch and Cityscape Painting with Dean Larson. Learning new things every day and getting lots of portfolio work done!

My department director suggested many helpful workshops to help me with my thesis, but the unfortunate conclusion from these workshops is that I really need to start from square one, which leaves me wondering what it was exactly that I have accomplished the last two years...?

An Olympian Feat!

Struggling through my photoshop class. Here is my assignment to create an olympic stamp. Definitely learned a lot with this one!

Allergies are killing me, I keep stepping on my dog's pointy chewed up cow hoof (ouch!), and more wedding planning. Uggggg! If only I could sit and fiddle with photoshop all day! Instead, today I must go to the dumps and get rid of the debris from our now gutted master bathroom.

Never a dull moment!!

A photoshopped life

This summer is just blowing by!
47 days until the wedding and two weeks into summer school classes. A week ago I went kayaking and gave myself a nice case of acute tendonitis in my wrist which has made working on homework (and housework) just that much more fun ;P

Never the less, here is a project from my photoshop class that I am taking online this summer. I feel like I'm struggling a lot in this class and that everyone else in the class are already experts in photoshop and just breezing through it. It is supposed to be a beginners class so I am confused as to how everyone else seems to be so good at it already and I constantly feel like a fish out of water. Oh well, guess that just means I need to be working harder and spending more time on my homework.
I'm REALLY looking forward to this Fall when I will be getting the newer version of photoshop!

Hopefully I will get the hang of it and start putting out some work I can really be proud of!

She Sells Sea Shells

It's amazing how stressed I can get without even having a job or school right now. Keeping up with housework and all of our animals is pretty challenging, but I'm learning and hopefully it will get easier. So I apologize for my lack of blogging. I'm sure you all have been just desperate for a new post.

This is something that I did last semester. It's my only layout design that has a character in it (we weren't supposed to have characters in our drawings but my teacher didn't say anything about it, phew!) Why a Sea Shell Shop would be open at night is beyond me, but I just went with it.

As a little kid my family would take trips to Morro Bay and my cousins and I LOVED to collect (or buy if we had money) sea shells. So that was the inspiration for this cable car creation. Hope everyone is having a good start to summer. I have my fingers crossed that I will get some new drawings done before I start sumer school.
Hasta La vista!

My Latest and Greatest

Finals are coming to an end. Tomorrow is my last presentation. Definitely learned a lot this semester and feel like I have some more confidence in my abilities.
Now I just need to get started on my own thesis project and uniquely brilliant ideas!

This is part of my final for my layout design class. I have officially ventured into the world of photoshop and all that it holds. Luckily I am taking a class in photoshop this summer that should help my skills quite a bit. Hopefully after this class I'll be doing the breast stroke through photoshop instead of the doggy paddling that's been getting me through these days.

Late but worth the wait!

Wow! I can't believe how time has flied! Now here I am, in my new house with my wonderful fiance and my sweet puppy!
In the mean time, I am constantly working on the house, or cleaning, or organizing...and somewhere in here I have to find time to do homework and work on my thesis. Oh and I still have the wedding to plan. So everything is happy happy but work work at the same time. Isn't that how life always is?
Anyway, I only have three weeks left of class and have made some fabulous pieces of art!
So here you go!
ENJOY!

Let them eat cake!

I passed my midpoint review last Thursday and have spent the last two and a half days moving out of my apartment. Sitting down in front of the computer today, I found that I didn't have any new art that I wanted to post and none of my older art jumped out and said "I need to be shared!". So....

I had wanted this Blog to be primarily about art. But none of us are just one thing, and today I find that there is so much going on in my life that it is over flowing into my "art blog".

I am getting married this August and am currently in the process of planning the wedding! There will be lot's of DIY projects and whenever I'm not doing homework or working on my thesis I'm scouring the internet for wedding inspiration. I found this photo and just thought it was wonderful!

Here's to a great Sunday!

GeeeeOOOO Character Design

So this might be my new Geo! I really like it, but unfortunately it's just too late to change my presentation for my midpoint which is in two days. I'd have to redo turn-arounds and color studies...I could probably pull it off if I didn't need sleep or sanity.

Oh well, I'll save this guy for the future!

A View With A Room

Here it is! My new and improved artist room!

I am very proud and happy with it. Of course my teacher still thinks I need to put more stuff in. Now I am not a neat person by any means, but I feel that this room is cluttered enough. I mean honestly, can anyone see where I could add more canvases? Anyone?

On to the next project!!

Something old...and blue

I haven't been able to make it to the computer lab (when the scanner is available) to scan anything new. So here is something old...

These days my life is full of stress and frustration. You would think that would stop the flow of creativity. Maybe it has, but when I have the time to work on something I really like, then I don't think it's any less wonderful because I have so many distractions.

I am continuing to work on "the artist's room". Hopefully the new and improved version will be posted soon. Here's to the big scanner being available tomorrow while I am around.

Character Idea

Here's my favorite so far for Geo's character design. Still working on his body, but it's coming along. Now I need to start working on Sula again...and environments, and my timeline, and everything else I need for my midpoint.

The dogs are finally sleeping, so I have about an hour before the craziness starts again.

No problem!

So much stuff to do!

Since I last wrote I got engaged, started planning a wedding and started spring classes. My mid-point review is in two weeks and I need to have a portfolio ready by April to apply for an internship this summer at Pixar.

So that's a long way of saying I'm pretty busy.

This is a layout drawing of an artist room. It was homework for my layout design class. So far I'm loving the class and I think I will get lot's of good portfolio work from it.

Oh did I mention my fiance and I got an eleven week old puppy? Yeah, I'm going crazy right now. But then I feel like I get more done when I have more stuff to do. Sounds weird, I know, but I guess in order for me to be more motivated, I need deadlines. Hopefully this will be a good asset once I get a job.

Here kitty kitty

Here's something I've been playing around with. Nothing really interesting going on and nothing even remotely profound to say.

Self Portrait in Graphite

Last night I sifted through the various links that come up when you google "character design". Many blogs of many artists came up and one that I liked in particular had a caricature of the artist. So I decided to take a stab at myself.
As you can see I have added my holiday gut and somewhat frizzy hair that I haven't bothered to style for the past three days, to this drawing. I'm sure other versions will pop up in my head, and possibly this blog, in the future, however I'm ok with this for now. Ok enough to make it my profile picture for facebook at least.

Not today

Today I forced myself to go into the city and meet with my friend Jaime to draw people. I say forced because for some reason dragging myself out of bed was particularly repulsive to me today. Not sure why. I just don't feel productive. I don't feel inspired!
But I know I should just draw anyway. That's why I made myself go, but I still don't feel I did all that well. I suppose this will be a practice run. We plan to do it again next week, hopefully I will perform more to my satisfaction then. Anyway, this post really seems to be getting more and more boring. So, until tomorrow...

Tada!

So I forgot to put "work on blog" on the list in my previous post on excuses not to get to work. Oops!

Here is the maquette I mentioned before. Not the best pictures, but they'll have to do for now.

I have recently decided to go through my "art of" books in order to figure out the layout of my own book (aka thesis). Tonight I am starting out with "The Art of Wall-E" which I got for Christmas. There are all these great little details in the book like Buy N Large advertisements and all sorts of different knickknacks that Wall-E collects on earth. So this week I think I will try to work on stuff like that in addition to my continuing efforts to create a main character that I'm happy with.

Watch the Birdy!

Here are some concept sketches for a character that I will be including in my thesis project. It's a combination kangaroo, ostrich and billy goat. I made a maquette (a small scale model or rough draft of an unfinished work or sculpture ) of this creature in my character design class and am pretty happy with the results.
Anyway, the Fall semester is over and I now have no excuse not to devote my attention to my thesis full time. My goal is to also update this blog on a daily basis. I know I have mentioned my struggle with self discipline and keeping on a schedule in my earlier blogs, so now I get to put myself to the test. yay.
So far here are all the reasons that I have found to lollygag:

-Must clean apartment!
-My dresser drawers really need to be re-organized
-There is something on Hulu that I have not seen yet
-I need to make a "To Do" list (yes, seriously)
-Laundry
-I need to start packing for a trip that is a week away
-I started packing for a trip and noticed I need a new (insert any sort of object or article of clothing here) so I must go get it...right now!
-I'm hungry
-Must clean apartment...again
-Do dishes
-Organize work space

That's the stuff I can think of right now, but I'm sure there are many more excuses that have popped into my head when it is entirely necessary that I get to work on what is to be my future. Sometimes I wonder if I'm scared or just lazy. What is it they say? Success is 80% motivation? Something like that. School motivates me, my classmates motivate me, my teachers motivate me, artists motivate me, why can't I motivate me?
